I'm looking to build a Gyraf SSL clone.  I was planning to build around a readily available project case (very similar to the real SSL case), but no response from the supplier and i've decided to buy a blank 19" 1RU case available locally and cut my own layout instead.  Shouldn't be too hard as I have ready access to a drill press and various hand tools for the job.

Anyway - I shoot for best results possible, and one thing that has me scratching my head is how to label/print the control graphics.  I'm guessing there's a few ways to skin this cat, but i've never attempted this before and not sure if there's a best practise for a DIYer.

Without going so far as having a screen print made, what DIYer method will give me the best aesthetic results and also be hard wearing?

I have been looking at laser cured paint for a Project. not laser engraving (!)....

basically they put an even coat of paint on the finished faceplate and pass the laser it to cure the paint and permanently fix the font / graphics. I have not done any project now but at the time it seemed a excellent option in term of cost / result. some limitations apply, specially regarding color - and I think you can do only monochrome stuff....

you might inquire with some local laser equipped metal workshop.
