Hi all,

It's been a loooooooong time but I have a question:

Does the BB604 work well with 16 V rails? Or would you recommend another chip?

Thanks so much in advance.

Rob

Aren't these regular IC opamps? Isn't this stuff covered in the datasheets?

Peace,
Al.

My apologies to all,

I would like to substitute TA7136P for Burr Brown 2604

I am sorry for not doing my homework..

I think you mean OPA604? (Just type it into Google and "Poof", there's the data sheet.)

The data sheet gives +/-25V as the maximum supply voltage, so looks like you are very safe at +/-16V.

Electrically, there should be no problem in replacing a TA7136P with an OPA604. Mechanically, it would be tricky if the TA7136P is in a single-in-line pack (SIP). You could chop up a piece of 1/10" pin header and make a flying rig of an SO8 pack OPA604 on it. Be sure to include a 100nF ceramic capacitor between the + and - power rails right at the OPA604 package. Leave the TA7136P compensation pins unconnected. Depending on the original circuit design, you may have to put a small (e.g. 10pF) NPO or COG capacitor (not ceramic) between pins 6 and 2 on the OPA604 to ensure stability.

opa(2,4)604 is stable in most applications of mine without compensation. I would recommend the 134 series over the 604 series anyday.
opa134 is still in production? a few month ago was really hard to find some.
Still available. The 4134 is only available in surface mount if you look at the data sheet. Looks like they haven't edited the decription though. You might still find some quads in Dip with small suppliers.

Thanks for all your help and, again, did not mean to ask question that is in the data sheet. Just wanted to make sure the op-amp works 'well' at lower voltage.

Cheers

Very good read, Thanks.

I would like to mix through a Yamaha PM700 console for analog summing. Ideally, I would like to send stereo (drums, GTRs, vocals, bass, misc) groups out from the sound card to the desk.

Does the opamp color the sound at (near) unity gain or are the characteristics better felt at high gain?

Hmm... Not working. And I've double checked everything.

I've read from a couple of sources about swapping the ta7136 for the opa2604. However, it's almost 5 in the morning here and i'm practically seeing double.

Any advice or suggestions on what could be the problem would be very much appreciated.

Thanks & bonus nachos.

Yeah, made a little adaptor board. Pins are the same except for Inverting and non-inverting inputs which are, uh, inverted. I am really stumped on this one. I'm assuming that if an OPA604 works in a direct swap that an OPA637 will work too.

Any one out there with experience replacing these op-amps (TA7136)?

I will try to do that now. I know SFA about hosting, posting, linking so I will need a little time.

thanks.[/img]

Ok, here goes first try...
