Hi folks,
I've been here a long time, but I'm a hack. I can build stuff from schematics, but I can't design anything. I'm trying to change that and so I've decided to actually try and learn electronics (what a concept, haha). I like building modular synths and so I'm starting by trying to really understand the inner workings of a 555. I understand the big picture of what the chip itself does, but I'm trying to understand how the descrete transistors that make up each comparator works. To be clear, I literally just watched this video on how transistors work and this is the level I'm hoping to be working in:

Can anyone ideally point me to a video or documentation that would describe every step of the descrete comparators in a 555 (or anything similar. I found this, but it's in Italian ( I think):

Thanks!

Unfortunately not. I'm not looking for circuits that use the 555. I was specifically wondering about how the internal discrete components in the 555 are working-specifically the comparator sections within the 555.

The comparators inside are like any comparator. They saturate to the positive rail when Vin+ > Vin-, or saturate to the negative rail otherwise.

Maybe this link will help.

You might find a datasheet somewhere that breaks the block diagram into indivdual transistors in a schematic, but unless you are at engineer-level at analysing circuits I doubt if it'll help you much.
