Hello, Everyone,
I recently completed mixing a thing for radio broadcast:
I provided the microphones and was at each performance for multitracking. I used my Bo Hansen and tube DIs (CJ's custom transformers) that I built for most all of the direct instrument lines. A KM84 on hi hat and a pair of Bumble Bee ribbons on overheads.
The turnaround time was a bit insane. Twice during the editing/mixing process I worked at least 36 hours straight to meet both deadlines. I am just now recovering from the whole ordeal.
Everything was mixed through my TAC Scorpion which is heavily modded (https://groupdiy.com/threads/tac-scorpion-overhaul-odyssey.68714/) and individual tracks where processed with the various outboard gear I have built over the years.
No individual compression was used on the drum tracks. I mixed down the drums to a stereo track and then printed another stereo pair with GSSL with a Cavendish and Turbo board installed. The handful of errant stick hits were replaced with another drum hit found elsewhere in the same track.
Pretty much all of music mixes where first passes as there was no time to give them a critical listen. I sent all of the individual dialog and music parts to their producer who then arranged and added/edited the parts further to fit the different radio formats needed. It was very challenging on all fronts but they seemed very happy in the end.
Thanks!
Paul
