Hey people,

I'm wondering if anyone has done a successful conversion from the original API 312 card to 500 series format.  This has been on my list to do for some time.  Now with my GroupDIY 51x rack ready to go I thought I should get moving on this.  My hope is to keep the 312 card fairly intact.  I have the 500 L-bracket with the 15 pin finger board for the end.  I'm using the JLMaudio GoBetween for phantom, pad, and reversal.  I'll have to omit a DI option - which is fine with me.

The problem - I think - is that the height between the output transformer and input transformer on the card I'm right around 1.5".  Otherwise I think I can make the GoBetween fit and the finger board.  I'm going to use a 15 pin socket connector stuck onto the L-Bracket for the 312 and rewire to the finger board and the GoBetween

If anyone has had a successful go of this - let me know your experience.

Thanks.

Hi there,

He uses the actual API 312 15 pin connector card to interface with the rack.  My plan is to keep the original pinout of the 312 original (which is far from 500 series pinout) and stick a socket on it to rewire to the 500 series specs.  It requires a little more front to back room but the main stumbling block (which maybe this pic answers) is the transformer heights.

Even this layout may different than the original - my original (1970's) API 312 cards all have the output transformer sagging into the card (not simply sitting on top).

I'll post later what I've been toying with (visually).

Thanks.

Here is a layout I did with a 312 clone about 3 years ago.
A real 312 will not be as tight.
I mounted the PCB to the L bracket with standoffs.

Use Jeff's 15 pin finger board and it will look alot better
than the home brew guy I used.

I don't have a finished picture of it
but it worked out well !!
