[quote author="jrmintz"]There's a schematic on the Jensen website. See AS092. I built it and it works great.

I've used a Jensen JT-DB-E in a direct box based on AS066. It works very nicely. I've not yet had an opportunity to try it in reverse to reamp.

For reamping, the 1:1 transformer used in AS092 will have the advantage of working directly from a line input, while AS066 will prefer a mic level signal. Will a pad work OK? If so, would a JT-DB-E be more versatile for a bi-directional box?

is there any reason i should not be able to use the jensen JT-BE-E in their direct box circuit AS007, but also integrate it into a reamping setup where i could switch it over with a button or something?

also, the AS092 uses the JT-11P-1 which is wound 1:1... going from converters to a guitar amp input i would want to step up the impedance wouldnt i?

if you want a cheap 2nd opinion, I built some using Edcors and they also sound fine to my ears. Get's used daily in our studios

Why not built both Jensen and Edcor and let us know the difference :green:

See the 25k pot on the schematic? This pot sets the impedance. The 10k pot sets the level.

im simply wondering now if it would be practical to make a reamp/di box with just the JT-BE-E instead of having to buy two transformers?

is the impedance pot something that would be on the front of the unit to be able to mess around with impedances, or more of a trim set knob?

can anyone reccommend a specific transformer that would work well? i dont mind paying for a good one, but im sure there are some out there that are plenty good but cheaper than the jensens... while im on reccommendations, can anyone reccommend a good di transformer that is also cheaper than the jensens? or are the jensens good enough that i should get them?

thanks for the help, im just getting into electronics, and parts selection is still over my head...

would the jensen DB transformer work in nydaves reamp circuit? what is it about a transformer that determines its impedance?

here's what I gather from the patent records:

My reamp followed NYDave's circuit and I used an Edcor for this.
I get a little more top out of the unit compared to the real gtrs.
This is trimable to meet the same signal as the gtr using the impedance pot.

On the distorted gtrs I use it for I can't hear any differences to the real gtrs btw. Never tried it on cleaner gtrs as I don't need to reamp (to dub and blow up) those.

For 10$ or something, it's hard to go wrong. I would suggest you just built it and see if it meets your expectations. The real benefit of DIY is that you can always throw in another trannie if you don't like the color the Edcors are giving. Or just built another and have two flavours to pick from whatever the sessions demands. I made 8 reamps so far to hook up to various amps and pedals while mixing. (Guess I'm a little obsessive huh? )

Also a cheaper alternative to the Jensen can be had from Cinemag.

HTH!

Cool !

With the original patent schematic to.

I see that I had overlooked the zobel network in my drawing.
