Hi folks:

A couple of mystudents are looking for reverse-log pots, c. 10k, preferably conductive plastic, not PC-mount. Any recommendations for brands, sources, etc.? They'll only be ordering a couple.

Thanks!

Peace,
Paul

They're not the best, but I used these for some THAT 1512 based preamps with good results.

Just a thought, I just ordered some pots direct from SSL for some blend units I'm building, they have a decent selection of values.  They're not super cheap in cost (around $8 each) but they're very nice quality 10% conductive plastic alps pots.  Only downside is they're PCB mount.

search  Bourns for conductive plastic no ?

I would suggest those too. Or Vishay Sfernice P9/P11 (both conductive plastic), i can hear BIG difference between them and cheap Pihers at the input of my power amp.

While I don't know about conductive plastic for onsey twosey, consider buying from a major manufacturer's service department . Most of the majors will have their own internal custom parts. I recall at peavey we had a few. One that I recall had something like three or four different resistive layers screened on top of each other (normal pots use one resistive screen layer). This was the only way to get both good adjustability down in the low single ohm hop off region, and still max out around 25k IIRC. You could mimic this mechanically by stacking two or three gangs in series with a low ohm wafer in series with a high ohm wafer.

Sorry I don't recall specific part numbers to ask for, but most companies will have one or more of their own internal go to parts for this application (mic preamp gain pot).

I bought some of these months ago and he still has stock.

They're listed Linear but are rev-log.
Bourns 10K, Dual, Conductive plastic,10%.
Nice pots,  cheap!
(use them in series for the 312 circuit)

you could make them from wafer switches and 10 or 11 resistors, educational,
and they work better than the standard anti log pots which have an approximate curve to them,

Also, with a bit of violence you can change a standard stereo log pot into a neg.log one:

Thank you, folks! Oh, and sorry it took me so long to come back with my thanks; I have been out of the house and away from the computer for a a few days.

Peace,
Paul
