Just to clarify the position regarding the 2K4 resistor. My original REDD EQ was designed the be part of a tube mixer and would follow a 10K level control or fader. When fed from a low source impedance, the effective impedance of the 10K pot is a quarter of its value, so 2K5 (2K4 is the nearest preferred resistor value).. So if you feed the EQ from a 10K pot you do NOT need the 2K4 resistor because it already looks like 2K5. If you feed the EQ directly from a transformer or some other low impedance source, you DO need to add the 2K4.

Note also that the EQ expects to be fed into a high input impedance (470K or more) load. It also needs to be followed by some gain to make up the loss in the EQ. The easy way to do this is weith a FET input op amp. Details are in the REDDEQ folder on the DIY page of my website:

Hello friends,

I would like to share a project I recently completed! This is an RS127-style brilliance control box based on the same section of @ruffrecords wonderful REDD EQ, with a Helios-style line amp for makeup gain. I followed very closely in the footsteps of member @mike (annoying him with many questions along the way), who completed his version of this same project a few years ago. I was inspired by his build and wanted to make one for myself as well. You can see his excellent work in the Redd EQ thread beginning with this post.

This project represented a lot of firsts for me. I had never put something together purely from a schematic (although I should qualify this by saying that I really used Mike's build as a template as well). I had only ever worked with a turret board a couple of times. And I had never designed a PCB, which I did for the line amp -- you can see the journey from total disaster to functional design ("functioning disaster," perhaps?) here. I can't say how much I appreciate all of the help and support I received from the far more experienced people on this forum.

I also want to mention that I used a UTM transformer on the output. @igs is doing a great service to the DIY community, in my opinion! Check out the thread about their transformers here.

Front panel laid out by me, fabricated by Frank.

I hope you all like it! I'm in the middle of finishing up the wiring on a second unit.
Hey man, this is the coolest DIY project I've seen all year. I'm fairly new to this kind of work and I'm trying to wrap my head around how some of this was wired beyond the turret board and PCB, is there any chance you have some kind of wiring guide for this build? I've been wanting to build three or four of these for my analog home studio and if you had any kind of build documentation or even a BOM that would be awesome.

A good starting point is to take a close look at the links on the first post to the projects that were the basis for this. I followed Mike's layout for the turret board pretty closely.

Alternatively, I have more recently adapted the REDD equalizer (ruffrecords/Ian's design) to the 500 format, which includes this RS-127 along with additional EQ circuitry. Here's the link to that project. I will be offering some of the extra PCBs that I have left, and I know another member also over-purchased and might be willing to sell you a pair. Let me know if it's of interest.
