Yo frank, are you tryin' to develop the autofade circuit ???
I've started a pcb design some time ago, but with the wrong proggie (pcb 123), i'll try to do it with Protel...

Maybe we can do it togheter...

Let me know...

Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeno
Hmm...
You could compare the pcb with the schem. if you want!?
I'll send it to you...
You've done the work ????

Oh yeah send it !!!!

One more here with serious interest in this

How is the progress coming guys?

are there any programmes you can recommend for Mac OSX or OS9. for pcb design, for front panels.... etc etc

i would like to draw up a front panel like Radience's but with the Auto Fade in it i would probably keep it in the XL series white and blue vain, instead of going with the g384 graphics.

if i were to do this (if there was a programme for Mac...) should i keep the Side Chain Listen button? as it is not part of the ORiginal, but an addition of Gyrafs.

Hi.
I haven't ever checked the pcb, pcb making is a problem if the ambient temperature is close to 0° and i don't etch boards in the kitchen but in the workshop outside
And I don't know how to connect the circuit to the comp-circuit, maybe with two resistors to the control voltage inputs of both audio vcas?

you can set the time ( from 1 to 60 seconds, with the corresponding knob) of a total fade out, that is triggered by a button labeled "Auto Fade"

this is a picture of it on the SSL website. you have to register with them, (very simple) and the you can access the high resolution pictures. and other cool info

I think in the 80s it was a nice feature, but today you can make much better fades inside the DAW. So if you're not after making a clone close as possible to the original I would omit this autofade knob.

yes, the thought of having to rewind and redo a complete song just because you mess up on the fade out doesn't excite me too much. It isn't even MIDI-triggerable... (oh, sorry, may I use that abbreviation in this forum? I am quite new to this place :)

By the way, does anyone know the correct dB range values for the threshold and makeup gain pots on the gssl? I am still waiting for the vca's, so I can't do any testing yet, but want to send the frontpanel on its way out to schaeffer. I plan on doing the 27k "unity gain mod", as described in the help thread.

Thanx, Mart

its just like Punching in and out with tape. after a while, you just get to know when and how to do it. its a Feel thing. and it only comes with practice. there is the added benefit of fading back in (if the rack worked the same as the In-Console one). Plus it is another feature to your Kit and also to your skills.

also DAWs truncate the waveforms in a not so pleasing way. i would much rather automate the fade on the master fader on a console.

I found the Infos I was looking for on Jakob's site, it is 0 to 20dB Gain on the makeup gain and -20dBm to +20dBm on the threshold. The outboard unit from SSL has -5dB to +15dB on the makeup and -15dB to + 15dB on the threshold, would you presume that they are using a different reference level or that the electronics are different? The difference is not that great, but it is there...

my GSSL had about 13db of make up gain and I forgot what my actual threshold settings came out to be, but I labeled -15 to +15.

Hey Frank
Do you have the gerber file for the pcb?? I can check on how much it would cost to have a few of those made... if you want..

btw. the part on your website with all the fpd designs rocks.. thanks a lot.
