Second EDIT: It's a very interesting paper, and I thank you for the information.
However, I find it downright shocking that Oliver is not even referenced---particularly when the paper opens with the statement, clearly intended to be provocative and revelatory: "Shot noise and thermal noise have long been considered the results of two distinct mechanisms, but they aren't."
Alas, all too typical of the Caltech folk, where Not Invented Here is practically tattooed on foreheads :razz:
