i read some posts about microphones splitters, and saw some quotes that active splitters (no transformers) need to be mic pre amps.
whats the reason that it can't be done with simple voltage follower buffer (based on op-amp) and without amplifing at all?

might even sound 'better'. if you're primarily using typical FOH desk preamps a little gain is a good thing like, 1:2/6dB

or split at the output of the preamp. much better. splits at the mic end can cause some serious headaches/groundloops. and not all mics sound that great loaded with two preamps. and then there's the P48 issue

Stepup-transformers are IMO not the best idea as they reflect a much too low impedance to the mic.

Thinking over my first post, -125 dBu is reasonable - a pair of 990Cs would do the trick. Not cheaper than transformers though.
