Ive been an in the box guy for years. thanks to this wonderful forum I've built some great outboard gear over the past few months. I've built some eq's and compressors without much of a problem. My difficulty today lies in trying to calibrate my new sb4000 mix buss. Maybe not so much calibration as signal path to my daw and back.
This is what I need to do:
"Export a 1Khz test tone through the unit and back into the DAW." what's the easiest way to do this?

This what I ultimately need to do :
Export a 1Khz test tone through the unit and back into the DAW.  Adjust your volume levels so your DAW meter reads somewhere around -10dbfs.    Now adjust the threshold knob on the compressor until there is 10db of compression (DAW should read -20dbfs).  Adjust VR17 until the meter on the compressor shows 10db of compression.

I'm using sonar 8.5 through lynx audio aes16e-> aurora 8 -> patch bay. I think I keep over thinking this and I'm getting really frustrated because I'm sure it's an easy answer.
Sorry for the stupid question.

Cheers,
Chris

pull up a signal generator in the daw. Have it set to 1K and adjust the level so that coming out of the daw your at -10dbfs. then plug the daw outputs into the input of the compressor.  plug the output of the compressor into different inputs on the daw. Look at the input level coming into the daw. Adjust the threshold knob until you get -20dbfs on the daw input channels. then lastly adjust vr17 until you see 10db of compression on the meter on the compressor.
