Hi,

I have this hi-fi amp which has the "speaker protection relay issue" : sometimes the sound disappears and it needs some "shaking" to mak it reappear.

So I'm looking to replace the relays. The original ones are Omron G5PA-28 :

Looking at the datasheet I've noticed the -28 model has "Single-crossbar contact models available for high
reliability".

What's this about ? Never heard about those "crossbar contact" before.

Is it worth buying those instead of regular power relays ? Farnell carries some rel

I think the crossbar contact was for low level work. You really need a power relay.
If you just put in a new one you should be fine for a few more years.

That's telephone-system reliability.

Normally we would use simple button contacts for good current handling at low price. Dunno why they specced -28.

Replace with either -2 or -28. Buy an extra while you are at it. This will probably last the rest of your life.

Thanx a lot for your responses !

I guess the "telephone reliability" wasn't enough anyway to prevent the relay from acting weird (well actually I'll see if the issue will be cured after the relays replacement)

All the best.

Eric
