Can any members recommend an application which can import DXF files and then translate these to a Gerber layout????

Close I am searching for DXF to Gerber

I am currently trying dip trace does anyone have an idea of were to obtain component libraries??

Most PCB CADs can import DXF. So you don't necessarely need a separate DXF to Gerber program. PCB CAD is also better alternative if you need to modify the drawing (which is normally the case because the conversion is never perfect).

PCB CAD is a category, not a particular program.
Eagle is my personal fave for pcb software, and there's a ton of libs available, and parts are easy to make as well.
I think I already tried Eagle I couldn't get along with it as I am used to using CAD apps such as Autocad and Rhino.
Thanks anyway.

I think it would be great if someone could to a tutorial on the basics on Eagle.

I will check them out cheers.
There's a ton of them out there, and they've been posted on here many times.
I forgot to ask can you import raster images eg JPEG,BMP ????
I think so, but you'll quickly find that drawing a schem and making a board from it is much easier and faster.
I keep having the same problem when using the software, do you know how to get it to draw a resistor????

What steps do you take????
Schematic, or board?

Either way, the info is contained in the first two tutorials i linked...
I am getting there I have just found the right part number for a standard style resistor as the code is slightly different.

Do you happen to know the part number of an XLR jack????

it's the part number of the part...

if it's not contained there already, you'll have to download or make a part for the library.

Rochey has posted this on here as well, search my friend, search.
