I took my usual stop off today at the recycling center ,
In with a load of old video camera gear I found what you see below .
sony F-115.JPG

This mic is not at all like the usual Sony electret or karraoke dynamic mics you see .
Its more like a purpose built ENG all weather reporters mic ,
It has a big ball rain/windsheild /pop filter which is removable ,
Omni patern ,
It has a really heavy brass body with a most imaculate finish that leaves you in no doubt about the build quality ,

I was even more surprised when I found the F-115B available on special order from a place in the US ,
$900 ! no cancel ,no return policy .
Definately a nice addition to my mic locker .

There was a few Camera/VCR power adapters down there , CMA-8
13VDC 5A ,

The casework on these is nice , could be worth saving a couple to house a tube mic/preamp supplies , it already has multipin connectors ,cables and xlr output ,

Looks like maybe Sony's answer to the EV 635A. Back in the day, newsfolk could count on their trusty 635 in just about kinda weather.

Can't imagine what makes the Sony so expensive.

The F-115's claim to fame seems to be it works in the rain with the big windsheild .
theres two concentric metal perforated domes in there , each with its own fine textile mesh ,
its seems its built in such a way that any water that collects on the windsheild drains down away from the capsule .

The entire thing is made of machined brass, not the usual die cast body .
Second hand value seems to be in the 130-150 $ range .
