I friend has a Soundworkshop console that is sitting unused and was thinking of selling it. My question is, are there any cool opamps or parts inside that are work keeping it for? (Opamps, EQ cards etc...)

thanks,

mike

You're gonna have to provide more info than that. A model number would help.

Where's he located? I might even want to buy it if it's cheap enough. There's a couple of models of small-format consoles from SW that look interesting to me (although they used ICs that are not-so-hot by today's standards).

Mike,

It was a good console for the money around 1980 when the console was new on the market.

One nice thing is that you can take out the equalizer section (even mike preamp if there was "Trans Amp" as option) from the module, because this was on separate pc-cards, so you can aesy put them in a 19" rack box if you want.

What I remember it have also separate sum/line amp cards on each module, with a big output transformer and a LED-meter, also nice to use if you want to build 19" preamps of this console components.

You say from Scandinavia ???, if there are a add on big needle VU-meters (Ampex AG-440 VU) in the top of the meter bridge, I have sold this console from the begining in 1980.

Hi Bo,

Thanks for the info. There are led meters on the individual channels and I believe there are VUs for the L/R buss. They don't look custom made though as I remember.

Mike,

If the console are from Sweden (I think it was only sold one or two here) and if there are two big needle VU built in a separate walnut wooden case month on the top in the middle of the bridge, (this was custom made by me) maybe it can be this console.

(ofcourse it was a guess, when you say Scandinavia)

Hi Bo,

The console history as I understand is that it was puachased new by a studio on the West Coast of Norway many years ago. Since then, it has changed hands at least two times. There are no custom VU meter bridges on this particular one.

Mike,

Ok, it was only a "shoot from the hip"

But as I say before, it is very easy to dismount the equalizer section from the module, because it is a separate add on pc-card include all pots and switches. (there was three EQ option in different style)

It was buildt in this way, to offer a choice for different mike amp and equalizer style.
(same idéa as on Sony MXP-3000 and Quad Eigth Westar consoles some years later)
