I have a few Chinese bodies that need inserts, I’m having a devil of a time finding something reasonable… the neutriks seem to be unavailable. I thought I had found an amphenol that might fit with some coaxing but no dice. Thanks in advance!

Interested too. Chinese mic bodies manufacturers only offer 3 pin inserts. Made a lot of researches without success, instead of buying at least 500 pieces, but I've ordered a U47 style mic body from aliexpress and asked for a 7 pin insert and they've been able to provide it with the mic body kit.

I’ll try that next time, didn’t realize they’d do that, thanks. Though I’d still like to find an insert of dependable quality….

Well if it is possible to get one from some manufacturers maybe you could ask the company you bought yours from or purchase a bit the size of the neutrik and enlage the hole diameter.

Thanks Moamps and Soliloqueen I think that is the only currently available (non Chinese made) 7 pin insert that will fit a mic… I was hoping for something that wasn’t 18$ a piece. But cest la vie….

Thank you for the thoughts Tim Campbell, and you are right I could machine something to fit, but in this case I’ll probably stick with a manufactured insert.

And as an extra kick in the nuts, the panel-mount Neutrik NC7MP seems to be discontinued. I recall having used one many years ago. Would 6 pins be enough though, perhaps?

Krohn, yea the NC7MP is unobtanium as far as I can tell…. Unfortunately for my current project I need all 7 pins, but a good thought in the future.

looks like it’ll be switchcraft this time

Is the Regular D series too large? They're very readily available.

It's not the size, as the physical format of the thing - in the -MP part it's just that sort of insert inside the metal shell. The D-shell has a very different makeup.

I found a supplier of cheaper 7 pin inserts a few years back in the UK , they have worked faultlessly for me all along , but then again they might not have the same longevity as Switchcraft or Neutrik in an everyday usage situation .
Even years back I noticed the proper Neutrik 7 pin were on the way out , might well be to do with clearances between adjacent pins and the housing not conforming to modern day requirements , still you slieve the solder connection and the back of the pins inside the plug with insulation , it works just fine .

Right right. I see what you mean now- it’s about easily cannibalising them for the insert. 👍👍
