One of my old jensens had abit of an accident a few nights back and I am thinking about giveing reconing a try since jensen sells the recone kits for these. Are there any good websites or books that have good hints on doing this?

If you re-cone, check your polarity. Some of the old vintage Jensen's had reverse polarity, something we have been discussing at the Drawing Board.

A recone job will most likely put the speaker into today's standard polarity, due to the direction of the voice coil winding.

If you have a multiple spk cab, compare it with the other spks with a 9 volt batt. If it is a single spk, don't worry about it, unless you want your amp to play backwrds, like some of the older amps. If using the amp with other amps at the same time, you need to phase everything together.

I am the one who reported on the revers polarity on old jensens are various other speakers in the post  Its the RCA branded P10 that I mentioned in that post that is in need of a new cone. But since it is just the surround that is torn, I might put a foam surrond on it from those re-edge kits just to give it a go. Even though one of those foam surrounds are total overkill for a P10. But the jensen recone kits are only for pre 1970 Jensens, so it may actualy maintain the same polarity, or at least the same polarity of stadard pre70s jensens, which this P10 is backwards from. This is starting to get comfused in my head, maybe i should jsut get all my speakers reconed so they can all be in the same polarity

Thanks
