Hey there, amongst the array of projects I have in the works, I managed to finish the first of these off ( except for tracking down cool knobs). Props to Fabio for spotting this on my bench earlier! =)

Thanks to Jakob!

Here's the panels, drilled, with graphics, drying on my lawn. Thanks to Mikkel for the scale-o-matic. This was printed using an early incarnation. Now it can crank out the "fancy" scales

Here's a view of the meter side. I bought these NOS Simpson meters from someone around here(can't remember who, but thanks, and chime in if it's you), and thought they'd look cool on this project:

Here's the other side of the panel, complete with purple disco light:

And here's an inside peep, thanks to wilibee for the 202's:

The twin for this is 3-4 hours behind ( wiring panel to mainboard, xlr connectors, and power, drilling holes to mount pcb and toroid).

Buss squisher eh? This must be an American thing.

British and Comonwealth compressors are of course 'Squashers'.. :green:

Top job Ju... :thumb:
definately shiny boxes!

(BTW - your grass needs cutting)
Ah, the choices one must make. Let's see, I could ride around on a mower for 3 hours, or I could try and finish off those SSL compressors...... well, you know, I can always cut the grass tomorrow

Looks great! But how do you get the text and scales transferred to the panel? I know how to make the scales - the rest of the job is a big mystery to me...

Best regards,

Mikkel C. Simonsen

I'm using a laser printer, printing the graphics in reverse onto a waxy paper( still experimenting with finding the right paper, as it's hit and miss. I'm getting best results if I turn the printer off for a while, so the drum is barely warmed up when it's printing it out..)

Spray the panel with a light coat of spray glue, and then rub the toner onto the panel.

The pic of them drying is after being coated with clear laquer.

I call this the Keith method, as he originally posted about it.

Nice unit! like both the case and the meter!

Do you like the sound with the discret 202VCA? Without compression "on" it sounds kind of a DBX160 I think!

This one's hot off the bench, so I haven't had tine to formulate a listening impression yet ( my bench monitoring system sucks dognuts at present, but at least let's me know it's working properly).

I find one of the more frustrating points of building this equipment is integrating it all into the studio. I just had to rearrange racks, and am now so behind on wiring harnesses, it makes the studio almost unusable.

There was a time when I wanted to swap out to different patchbays. I shudder to think of the time it would take to redo everything.

Hey Fum;

Those meters are from me!!

Do you have a few pictures of the meter on it's own you could send me? PM me if you have/can take some. I have 8 more but they are all still vacuum sealed in military foil.

They look great on there!

Ok, here's the last pic, I didn't have the top attatched, but you'll get the idea  :

One is very nice, two makes it even more nice.
I'm interested in the "202 sound" as well.
Are these your first SSL clones? Or do you also have made one with THAT's 2180's or dbx 2151's?

Indeed... I made one GSSL and am building another in my spare time right now. They always look better in pairs, don't they?!?

Yep, these are my first ssl's. Note, some people in the black market have been selling 202's. By the time you import your 218x/215x chips, it's almost the same price.

Something to chew on =)
