I am fairly fussy about my wire strippers. I really like the Ideal T7, which goes down to 30 AWG solid. There are other models for larger gauges.
Here is a stripping technique for stranded wire showing the T7 in action. Begin by positioning the strippers about 20 mm from the end of the wire. Strip the wire to make a gap in the insulation revealing about 5-7 mm of bare wire. Leave the stripped insulation in place. Grab the end of the wire and roll it between your fingers to give the bare strands a tight twist. Then cut the newly twisted wire end to length. The result is a nicely wrapped wire end.
