PRR has a point, though. In the case of a mixer in a radio, we're not interested in the sum, but rather in the difference.

Nevertheless, for the purpose of 99% of the discussions here, the phrase "summing mixer" is redundant.

Just found another one in the news: "United Iraqi Alliance". (the word alliance implying a union and all).

That just depends on the direction! When transmitting, you're mixing UP, so you're summing your signal with your LO :)
