I started brainstorming the other day for a DIY stage-light controller (to be used on-stage by a performer). I was thinking it would be nice to have a tap-tempo control, so that the performer could easily set the tempo of the lights. I have a few ideas in mind about implementing this with a microcontroller, but I was wondering if any of you guys have come across any clever ways of doing this sort of thing before. Thanks,

The easiest way my band has found to do this is just plug a lead from an auxiliary into the sound to light socket on our lighting desk. We then just send the Bass drum to this auxiliary. The sequence for the lights is then in time with the music whatever the song. The sound engineer can over ride this if he wants. The desk isn`t anything special, maybe about 30 years old, but its nice & simple & does the job.
