Hi all, the subject says it all. My father-in-law just brought the beast home.
I think I'm going to have to learn how to align tape after I get it working...
So, does anyone have a schematic or manual?
I ask because recording seems to be working flawlessly as evidenced by the VU meters. However, playback and monitor output are both very very low. No noise / distortion, but really quiet.
At first I though it could be the output dual pot. When turned all the way down, you still get the slightest bit of signal. All the way up, and you get a little more, still very quiet. Result is same through the RCA outputs, or through the headphone jack.
I though maybe the headphone jack was the shorting switched type, but it's not. Just a normal jack.
I carefully played with all of the output / monitor trimmers on the audio PCB (resetting them to their original position after monkeying around a bit) and it made no audible difference while adjusting. Wondering if something is shorting to ground.
Unit looks very very clean, practically unused. No visible problems with electrolytics, no indications of any burning, etc. Tomorrow or Saturday I'm going to pull the boards out if I can and test diodes, resistors, etc. There are a fair amount of ICs on this thing. But it only looks like one big IC on the output side, like a stereo opamp or something.
