In some old test equipment the hookup wire is really nice-- like stranded that has been pretinned with solder under the jacket. so it is more rigid than stranded but more flexi than solid.
Where does one source this stuff? Whats it called? "Tinned hookup wire " seems to be tin plated strands

Thanks from here too - I've been looking for this type for a long time..

You would think that hookup wire would be among the easiest things to source - but I find the exact opposite irl...

Pre-bond is great! I have several hundred feet of 16awg, and alsowhat's left of one of those smallbear 22awg samplers.

+1 for smallbear's wire!

btw, Belden calls this stuff "uni-strand". Same thing. Great to work with, especially in tight spaces where you want to "bend" the wire so it stays put and does nice little turns like you can with solid wire, except all the benefits of working with stranded.

I wouldn't mind have a nice selection of pre-bonded AWM to choose from. It's just harder to find.

If anyone wants to know the ebay vendor I got my 16awg pre-bond from, he's in the US and it's a great price, it's black and white stripe, and still has some last I checked. I can post or PM the guy's ebay page, unless that's against the rules.

All of the PTFE jacketed stranded wire I've gotten from Apex Jr. has been pre tinned. It's the best deal around. Less than half the price of new.

This is really good wire at a good price.  Plated and stranded, but unlike most other pretinned stranded wire this wire will stay where you put the bend.  Very nice when wrapping turret lugs or tube socket eyelets.  Unfortunately the jackets are kind of a PITA the work with.  You need the right kind of strippers to get it off cleanly and easily.

Eons ago, I had found hookup wire as described, but with (IIRC) "irradiated PVC" jacket which was far easier to use/strip compared to Teflon.  The plastic didn't melt during fabrication.

I think it was made by Belden or Alpha.
