I am surprised, this Tr%ns*@nt D*s%gn$r seems to be a very desirable unit according to you guys. I dont have any experience with this, modded version makes a lot of sense to me as a tool, but I dont know.

Let me know then!!!!

I'd be happy with either, but prefer the modded

(ha, for the sole reason to be able to use the frontpanel-file directly  - but that's kidding of course...)

Modded....

What is a Tr%ns*@nt D*s%gn$r btw?

just kiddin BUT can somebody elaborate about why it is so special?

I never really feld the need to try one, but if I can DIY one than it's another story offcorse....

Why it is so special? Because it´s the only tool which let´s you shape attack and release of audio signals like with an adsr controller of a synthesizer. It doesn´t sound at all like a compressor - in my opinon it is the only real innovation in analog audio technology during the past 10 or 15 years - something really new and not only a new flavour of a 30 year old idea.

I would be interested in the modded version, I am curious what difference it would make. Anyway, how much are new units nowadays? Perhaps not so expensive that it makes sense to diy an unmodified version...

I don't mind either way concerning the other mods, I think they sound like an interesting addition though.

Fabio, any chance you'd consider added DOA footprints for the input and outputs amps in the audio path, possibly even some space for a 2503-sized output TX? That would rock.

Cheers Tom

Good idea about the opamps and the trafo!

Ethically, modded seems better, since it's not a direct copy of a current product. I thought that was a no-no here, and that only discontinued/vintage gear was fair game?

I voted modded because the entire kit and kaboodle sounds like a whole bunch of fun to me.

Just think what it could do for the output of my stale Roland GS module...

I have to confess, this made me feel bad about doing this.

Didn't SPL get pissy with us before? I seem to remember something...

What about the whole EMI/REDD/WOB fiasco, for that matter?

Tread carefully, you guys...

Peace,
Al.

Distribution.
They have to go worldwide and break into our homes.
Only Bush could pull that off.

I still don't know what the product is, so we cool so far.

Talked to Winston last week, everything is cool, he says hello, and no, I do not know why the posts were pulled.

I second Peter (clintrubber) to 100%. Some informant from s*p*l even corrected the schem for us, so we should be very nice to them.
A dr@wmerlike gate fits the concept very well, too.

So, kind regards

Martin

Going the moded way would be cooler. It also makes the DIY version not a COPY. So I don´t see any problem with the modded version. That´s the way to go.

Hmm, to be honest I guess that us saying 'it won't be a copy of the stock unit' to give us peace of mind is fooling ourselves a bit... :?

Where's the line ? How big is the difference between doing one on vero and doing one (1 for each person) on a PCB ? The former looks fine, the latter seems already have crossed the line of 'no current products'... Tricky stuff.

I wasn't aware that that correction came from S*P*L themselves !
Uh, how to interpret that ?! It'd be easy to take that as a 'just do it guys, we look the other way & even help you with mistakes' but it'd probably be more of the fooling ourselves thing one post earlier.
