Hi!

I want to do a few experiments rolling my own transformers and inductors.

Has anyone out there found good suppliers for lams, bobbins and wire in different gauges?  I'm really just looking for small quantities at the moment, and don't want to commit to many kilograms of lams.

Thanks loads!

Stewart

Hi,
I had sources for lams in europe, (Germany), but I can't find them anymore. I think there are some here in the transformer meta. Since you're in the UK, you definitely want to go there for wire: http://wires.co.uk/.
Laurent.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I had a look in the meta but many of the links are 404.

These guys seem good but the lams and bobbins are larger than what I was looking for. Might grab a few anyway for experiments...

I'm not sure about the auctions - they don't seem particularly cheap and I would rather find a proper supplier.

These guys have a ton of stuff, U.S. based though. - https://www.amidoncorp.com/

I was investigating winding some inductors, if that machine you bought was based over here I'd have jumped on it.

Let me know if you need me to be a point man for any U.S. parts orders.

Usual supplier for lamination is www.magmet.com and for bobbins www.cosmocorp.com

The Magmet has a minimum order, which as of lately is pretty large for DIY or experiments purposes, unless you'd like to get enough for a couple 24 channel consoles, transformer coupled for both ins and outs. You could ask for samples and if they have them in stock would send you enough for a couple or so transformers. I buy by pounds, so if you need some small quantities of EE2425, or EI375 I could help with those.

Cosmo would send you some 5 pieces for evaluation purposes.

Best, M

Hi Mark & Ruairi,

Thanks for the links and suggestions. I may take you up on your kind offers.

Magmet have a distributer in the UK, so I'll give them a shout.

I've found some bobbins and am pulling apart some of the transformers in my junk pile for lams - it'll get me started and at least help me understand what the machine is capable of, before I start spending more money.

The good thing is that all the parts of the winder work well - now I just need to get the hang of everything!

Pickup bobbins and magnets were easy to get, so my first job is to make myself a couple of P90 guitar pickups!

Your winding machine looks great.
I'm in the process of buying one myself.

I guess you already did quite a lot of builds on it in the last years.
Let us know what have you been doing.

By the way do you know more sources for European transformer parts suppliers?

thanks

Check out ASCO for any transformer parts. They hold a wide range of components as ex stock items.
