Fun little project is a dual gang 1 meg pot with the wipers between hot and neg the right way to do it or should I use an inline pad of some sort. L R unbalanced RCA

The turntable is a line or phono output audio technica. It's running from above my racks to an amp far far away and I'd like to be able to adjust the volume without turning the knob on the amp.

For an unbalanced LINE out, insert the pot like a fader, connecting the source (TT) hot to CW, shield to CCW. Connect the load (amp) hot to wiper, shield to CCW.
-10 line level should be quiet with a pot inside in a metal box wired to load chassis. Long wire length will add capacitance and lower high end. A simple COTS pot will have L-R tracking issues, but close enough for rock n roll. I had no problems with Radio Shack detented 100k dual pots as passive monitor pots for decades, but my wire lengths were 16 feet max total.
