Hi,

does anyone know what the Urei 1181 cx mastering encoder/decoder
is good for...

is there any kind of compression device in it ??

thanks,

It's a "CX" noise-reduction encoder (and monitor decoder) - much like the DBX nr, but ment for encoding on LP's.. never had much success.. Schematic shows loads of fine components in there - transformers, vca's, meters..

Maybe a rebuild worth?

I just bought it for not so much money on evilbay, but don't have it here yet...

thanks for the manual link....

so what do you think...
should I leave it as it is, or grab the meter, transformers, transistors...
for my forthcoming 1176 copies....

finally got my 1176 knobs and switches today...

(thanks andrew@purple, but don't forget the missing switches)

are those bifurcated solder posts i see ?

been trying to hunt them down with no luck.

Mat,

See if you could mod the circuits into something useable - keeping the front panel. Maybe some simple A/R timing and some gain and offset at the CV, giving you threshold and ratio

Driller,
Nope, those are quad interlatching 1176-switches....

inch long forked turrets have been hard for me to source.
