Using photo diods for a limiter?

I tried this - I got more distortion from the detector than I did limiting.

I could have added a buffer stage before the rectifier, but it turned into a decent distortion pedal so I left it as-is. :guinness:

I would be curious to see how it works out..

A lot of thanks, mediatechnology!!!!
Although not great, it's an interesting part: http://www.fairchildsemi.com/ds/H1/H11F1.pdf
Was looking for something similar a lot!
As well, il300 is nice thing...tried them in voltage-controlled
time constants circuit...today ordering some h11f1's from Farnell!!!!

Will try ;))
Overloaded with work-lot of work and projects falled on me after finnishing the console...
If you interested, I tried voltage-controlled time constants
on compressor, to make att/rel user controllable adaptive.
Finally, used il300 with some stuff around on attack
and dual photores. with (again:) some suff around it on release.
Here resistor-like behavior preferred on current source/sink (see
modification of Horovitz/Hill idea on dn115 Thatcorp).
Soundvice curr. source/sink wasn't good for me-implemented dn115's att/rel to trafoless vary-mu, sounded...mechanical compession.
After this tryed some other stuff including PWM attack controll;))
Stopped on il300.
Thanx for idea, will inform if it will came something good!
