I think it's very hard to beat the thickness, meatiness and sheer musicality of a good EF86 in the U67 circuit, especially for vocals.
On the other hand, the EF86 is technically not perfect, it can be microphonic etc. A good Telefunken is very hifi sounding, though. Too clear for some, actually.
With the somewhat leaner and more open M269c you will win something and lose something at the same time. Such is life. But yes, the M269(c) is sought after and considered to be the über-U67.
Long story short, you should get both. I already have the D-67 and today I ordered the D-49. But I'm already sorry I didn't order the D-269 with it. Then again, that would mean I'd have to buy another body, another BeesNeez K6 etc. And I do have a wife.
Still .......
I got my (first) K6 today in the mail BTW.
The ironic bit of it is that when Dany was working on the D-49 with 5840 tube, after he did the D-67, I asked him to combine the two achievements and make an M269 PCB, too. Which he did. And then I even urged him to add the -c version before his well-deserved break. Which he did. So in fact I should have been the first to buy it. :-[
Today I was strong.
But I'm afraid resistance is futile.
