Volume Pot Question

I use my laptop as a sound module with virtual instruments. It is a hassle to turn change the volume while playing. I was wondering if I could use say a 100k pot as an attenuator to go between the laptop and the amp?

PRR, How did you know to use 10K instead of 100K?

10k is safer, if the amp has a 100k impedance a 100k pot will affect the tone as you turn it.

Not to mention possible problems long cables & cable capacitances might cause with a high-Z pot like 100k..

You may use 4.7K if don't like 10K.

Anyway outputs of modern SMD rugs are usually assumed to drive something like 2K and above. Input impedances are usually around 50-100K, so 10K pot will be optimal enough.
