@JohnRoberts....1&1 appears now to be Ionos?

That was a new one for me and I'm now checking it out. Since you have more than one website, I presume you're using their "business" plan:
https://www.ionos.com/hosting/web-hosting#plans
I have no plans to create another website, and currently use only two email addys associated with it.
I'm on a very old "legacy" plan with GoDaddy (more on that later in this missive) which includes some email addys with the hosting package. I realize TANSTASAFL <g>.
@john12ax7...interesting blog post re. EIG. Hostgator has been on my "short list".
In general: I meandered into the website "universe" via GoDaddy close to 20 years ago when I set up brianroth.com along with shared hosting and associated email addresses. GoDaddy was also my registrar, so I had "one stop shopping" which has worked quite well for me.
GoDaddy has upped the pricing a buck or two per month every so often, but it's not breaking my bank <g>.
What IS causing heartburn for me is that GoDaddy is changing their email services to a Microsloth <g> 365 platform and cranking up the price for the "privilege".
I've used Thunderbird as my email client (POP3, etc) for MANY years (before that, Eudora). My address books, archived files, etc. are all local....not dangling around on a server somewhere. I use webmail via GoDaddy maybe once a year if I happen to be away from my PC and have to check email NOW.
Several folks I know (and trust) report their POP3 service totally crapped out after GoDaddy made the transition, and tech support was not helpful. One guy went so far as to abandon an email addy he used for years and "start over".
I've read the vague emails GoDaddy sent me, and the equally vague FAQ's and called tech support.
I ASSume that after August 28th (their transition date for me) my email will break if I don't abandon my POP3 universe and bow down (and pay) to the Microsoft 365 cloud and have to use that app. My elderly Mom uses Outlook (part of her ISP offering) and it is the most screwed up/confusing thing I've ever seen. She has tons of problems working with it, and I can see why.
