What is this on AES snake?

Probably is. I've seen similar on some computer cables and is likely a ferrite cylinder.

Thanks. Guess they can't hurt to have on nowadays? Would it even be considered best practice to start using them? Or just as needed? Like those clip on types I guess....

I doubt it was added for no reason, probably helps improve some noise/interference problem.

Since it's all AES out, Tascam, xlrm fan outs, if using for analog, is that big sucker going to interfere with anything?

It should have no effect.

I'm not a fan of these things, they're usually indicators for bad design, anything decent should not need these.

Tx... Doesn't appear to but haven't really looked....
I've seen smaller ones on interconnects before just not ones so big.
From my understanding, this is what came from a Midas XL48 preamp.... not sure if that means the preamp comes with one or not....

I have some of the same digi cable and was going to make another but seeing this choke made me wonder if I should consider adding it to any I make.....

I've never had to put any of these things on the cable jobs I've done, I wouldn't border.

It's not a molded cable, someone just made it that way.

Also, for these things to have an effect shouldn't the cable make a loop trough it instead of it just being clamped on ?
