The manual that came with my Level-Devil makes reference to the Sta-Level, which means that it either followed the Sta-Level or came out around the same time.

The Purple Audio site has a collection of manuals, including both the Level-Devil and Sta-Level. The Level-Devel manual has a funny promotional text at the bottom of the second page that says, "Did You Know..." followed by a bunch of boasting. One of the sentences is,
"Did you know that Gates, established in 1922 and enjoying it's 43rd year, is one of the very few electronic equipment manufacturers in the world with such lengthy seniority."
1922 + 43 = 1965.
Could it be?
