Sometimes you learn the hardway but had a faceplate getting cleaned at work today.
Sprayed it very liberally with windex and then walked away for a brief phone call, about a minute.
Returned and started wiping the faceplate dry.  Took some of the silk screen with it.
Doh!!!!
Good thing it's a replaceable faceplate and not some vintage piece.
Windex the rag and then wipe.  Works well.  So does drying off the windex right away, but don't let it sit...

Windex contains ammonium hydroxide, which is a pretty powerful solvent.

The hydroxide ions make it also a pretty strong base, overspray leaves spots on anodized aluminum trim.

I hope you mean ethyl alchohol, isopropyl will kill you AND your brain cells.

For cleaning, I like Simple Green here in the US.
Yes isopropyl is toxic.... it can even be used as an anesthetic (and was used for small animals until discontinued due to bad side effects).

Since it can cause anesthesia, care should be taken when using it in closed areas with poor ventilation.
