has anybody wound there own transformers? how timeconsumeing/ difficult is it? what cores do you use?

hi toby,

look here:

http://www.groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=334

this was a simple 2:1 output xformer. the math was simple and
the winding structure not that critical. didn´t take much time (2-3 h for doin
the math, take the old xformer apart, clean it, rewind it and testing).

Look at my avatar. It is regulation autotransformer on mumetal core.
It is hard to find mumetal core now, but same manufacturers use this
material for current measuring transformers. But in the factory this
cores cuts and quality for audio application voids. :-( You must
pick up from the factory if they are not "finished".
(as samples for quality of production control)
My consultant is owner of that factory :) .

I have another question,
have some DIYer here wound his own TOROIDAL transformer.
I am planing to make my own microtoroidal winding machine, but I
do n t know how on it.
and RUFFs machines are of bad construction.
They use wherry and it is no good for true micro :-~

Hi mr. Jensen; mr.Lundahl and the others.
You can DIY somethink for you factory, DIY microtoroidal winding machine.
In czech institute of the A.S.Popov one was builded twenty years ago, but
after revolution must be place for cargo mobile phones and this
equipment was melted. Stainless steel was produced from it.

It s a pity, it can wound to the cores 1 mm diameter and up.
Here is functional diagrams:

Here is my poor translation to english. I am not linguist :)

For core clamping some RUFF clamps can be used, they are
good but patented :-~

I don't care if you're a linguist or not.

You are a very knowledgeable and helpful person, and I hope that I'm not the first to welcome you to the Lab!

If I spoke your language half as well as you speak mine, I'd probably be very proud!

Welcome once again!!!
