i cut, rather than unsoldered, the capsule leads on an mxl 2001 i'm modding, now they are to short. where can i get,or what type of wire is optimal for this part of a mic circuit(hi-z). i thought i remember someone here saying telephone wire is ok. thanks

OK rather than bump i'm answering my own question. thanks to some folks at the yahhoo mic builders forum. while telephone wire might be ok:
Use TEFLON (PTFE) insulated wire for high impedance capsule wiring. You can usually find this wire at surplus places.
(e.g. http://www.surplussales.com/Wire-Cable/

Something simpler might be to use 22AWG teflon sleeving with some
sort of bare wire inside. Since you cut it to length, there's no
stripping issue, and teflon insulated wire is a total PITA to strip
unless you have the right tooling. Be sure to wipe it down with
alcohol after cutting to remove your finger oils.

...and if you're soldering it...

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD cover the capsule with a protective sheet, to prevent any little flux globules from 'spitting' onto the capsule surface.

ALWAYS!!!

Keith
