Hello!
I recently got a pair of WSW 601-432C compressor / limiter modules.  They require a 50-db preamp to operate, and I am trying to set them up with either WSW 811402 or 811403 amps.  However, I'm a little confused about how to actually connect these, and so far I've only managed to get a very distorted (albeit rather cool sounding) signal out of them.

Does anyone have any experience with these and know what the proper hookup is? The documentation that I've been able to track down isn't clear to me.  In one block diagram (below), it seems to show the preamp's output returning to the compressor across a trio of resistors, while the manual for the compressor suggests that there should be separate links from the preamp to the compressor's output stage (off of the amp's output trafo primary) and the detector (off of the amp's OT secondary.)

I've tried connecting them with three resistors as described in the block diagram, and I get distorted  audio.  Any suggestions?

Hi,

Im sorry to be the carrier of bad news but this unit need an external  amp to work. That is the Box in the block diagram named "Studiouniversalverst."  Without this you only have the "Regelverstärker" but no Amp for the Comp.

i see these on German ebay sometimes and the seller usually forget to mention this "small" fact

This is the Amp you need:

You might be able to hook this guy up to a V672 in some way (not without modification i guess), but that is just speculation.

Well and now i see you have the amp so my post is just BS... :) I'm sorry but i will let the post stay as a reminder for me to READ posts i reply to.

Sorry sorry...

Have you changed the Electrolytes in the Comps? If not, do it!

Ha!  No problem, and thanks for the reply!  Yes, I have here both the germanium (811-402) and silicon (811-403) versions of the amp.  Really trying trying to get some reliable input on how to connect the comps to the amps, so if anyone has first-hand experience with these guys, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks

Almost ten years later... Did you ever figure this out? Not a lot of info out there about these. Does it have to be a 811403 or can you use any amp for make-up gain? Cheers
