Not 100% sure what you were refering too .

I did note the worldwide collapse of F.B. and its other associated platforms yesterday though .
I see 6 billion was wiped off Z'burgs fortune .
I do not and will not engage with his voyeuristic window licking and data collection A.I.
I wonder how many people needed extra anti anxiety pills yesterday because they couldnt get their fix of
approval .
I had a few beers with a buddy yesterday and he literally couldnt stop trying to login every ten minutes or so until service was restored . Z'burg is little better than a latter-day pied piper .

I did hear recently some advice for musicians regarding the use of social media , the person basically said make sure you have your own webpage to sell your music directly , by all means use the social media as way of getting people to your page . Solid enough advice but it seems that if you try and lure people away to your own webspace F.B. have the ability to restrict the number of people who see your link. The internet has well and truely killed the ability of musicians to make money off their records , F.B. takes this a step further by taking ownership of your content and being able to profit off the back of it , Stalin himself couldnt have come up with a better method of duping people into handing over their intellectual property .

The facebook whistleblower is testifying before congress today.

Her criticism is that Facebook put profits before customer safety, and civil order. Shocking....

Facebook has criticism from both sides for different reasons. I suspect they are too big to break up, but have been inviting regulation because that will improve their competitive advantage over smaller companies.

When an entity like his captivates the public imagination ,including politicians its becomes almost impossible to stop . Its fairly clear F.B. and their like are one of the most serious threats to what we know as democracy , I'd go so far as to call it a form of mental slavery . If regulation only ends up making it easier for Z' to ply his dastardly trade theres little point. I think he should take a bite of his own shit cake and watch the thousands of people engaging in self harming and other abusive behaviour on his platform , of course he simply hires people to sheild himself from the worst of it , of course many of his staff have cracked up trying to expurgate noxious content , he doesnt care there replaceable.

I heard one statement in passing about his management style that he set up a flat organizational structure driven by metrics. If the metrics are more engagement leading to more profit it is easier to see unhealthy bad decisions for some customer groups.

I am not offering him an excuse. He knows what his business is doing to people but seems more motivated by profit than empathy for customers.

PS: The real threat to democracy (IMO) is big tech and mainstream news taking political sides and selectively editing what stories it is willing to present or disappear. FB is included in with big tech but not alone in the bad behavior.

The title says, "Zuckerberg and the Socialists", but we are discussing about a private company, willing to do anything to exchange public health (and our very democracy) rent seeking the maximization of profits: seems to be textbook capitalism, yes? :)

it is not immediately obvious who the socialists referred to are. Some might say the current congress, at least the narrow majority, are the socialists. Name calling like this is inflammatory, to perhaps stir up interest.

Zukerberg is a capitalist (while I don't know how much of his own capital he put at risk back in his dorm room), trying hard to become a crony capitalist. He keeps begging government(s) to regulate him because he knows that will give him an advantage over smaller competitors who can't afford all the bureaucracy.

PS: President Biden's recent nomination to be comptroller of the currency (Saule Omarova) is remarkable. Not exactly socialist but don't let me spoil it for you.

Not really. Textbook exploitation yes but any political system can lead to that.

Cheers

Rob Nichols, the president of the American Bankers Association, said [Omarova's] proposals would “effectively nationalize America’s community banks.”

How did these regulators get voted-in prior to special federal appointment?!

She is not approved yet, just President Biden's Nominee for comptroller of the currency. Her background and public statements make the suggestion remarkable. She needs to be approved by the senate which should be unlikely.

This may just be another distraction to change the subject, not about facebook. Sorry if I contributed to the veer.
