We have installed the IEC terminal and are working on the power transformer. As of now, the orange and red cables, are going to the CT slot on the PCB board.

1. First question, do we need to have these going into a terminal first of use connector wire? Is this necessary? If we use connector wire, do we need to use a terminal to connect the two together, or can we simply solder the two wires together?

2. We have a blue, brown, grey and purple cable coming out of the transformer. These are heavier gauge wires. We are trying to figure out where they connect to. Keep in mind, we are doing a 120V build. Do these 4 cables attach to the IEC terminal, the Meter switches, or something else? Can you also tell me exactly what part of these terminals they connect to specifically?

Hey check these pictures out...

Sorry... i realize the pictures are not working. I will try another way of uploading them. Standby

Ok,
So you basically have 2 primary windings...if you were using 240v mains you would run these 2 primaries in series so that it cut the voltage by 2. But since you are using 120v you just run the 2 primaries in parallel. Either look at the transformers schematic or use a multimeter to check which winding is which. You want to connect them to the on and off switch and then to your IEC receptacle. Obviously make sure either your IEC has a fuse or you have a fuse inline with your transformer.

On the IEC terminal/connector, it has the letters L and N in different places than whats shown in the pictures. In the pictures I sent you, the wire terminal on the top seems like it would be for the Live wire, which then goes to the power meter. The bottom part is the neutral that then connects beside it. Is this correct?

That was the original plan, but on the Hairball site, it says to do it the other way.

interesting...fair enough :)

You should have stuffed the power supply section first.  Per the manual.

http://hairballaudio.com/docs/FETGUIDE/Section%20D%20-%20Power%20Section.pdf

The fist step is "Stuff The Power Supply".

Also please use the support thread:

That soldering looks really poor (at least in the images).

Not sure what to add at this point.  Follow the manual.  Step one is stuff the power supply and the it seems like you have not done that.

You may want to start by watching the soldering videos 1 and 2:

Hey Echo, thanks for the link. The soldering on those parts are not so good because we werent aware of the fact that connector wire should be used. Instead, we wired straight to the board which wasnt a great idea, seeing as how the wires on the trasnformer are short. We may go back and fix that. All the other soldering points are on the money though... as we have started stuffing the board (power supply section).

The guide on Hairball does not correspond well with that on MNATS. However, I thikn we have figured out what we were asking before.

Thanks

Pretty sure the Hairball guide Step 4 (the section "D" pdf) repeats the mnats PSU wiring guide verbatim. Print section D out if you have a printer, it's handy to have a hard copy to look at as you go.
