Is the "read unread posts" option missing?
Best,
Bruno2000

no, still accessible.. go to the home page of groupdiy and then on the right you find unread posts.

As much as I admire the effort to please a phone-based minority, I have to down vote reading double sized text with a light bulb as the background.
Don't underestimate the momentum of the mobile trend.

On the future people won't even own computers.

I loved the old layout so it will take a little while to adjust.

I also think it's a little too bright with the white background, even muting that slightly would help readability a lot.

Thanks for the effort Ethan, always appreciated.

It will take a little while before I'll be getting used to the new look, but I don't mind that. Although the amount of brightness is a bit extreme. Especially if you use CTRL- , hahaha. But it does look good.

Ain't it possible to use a bit darker background ? Like ....eehhh.... say, blue ? haha ! well, just a little less bright grey would be nice also.

Anyway, thanks for all the works again Ethan.  :)

Hi Ethan,

I certainly don't want to stand in the way of progress, but now reading and posting from my phone is so difficult it'll put me off coming here I think.

Other users have touched on this but there really needs to be an option to make browsing on a mobile device look the same as browsing on a PC. Far too much information is lost from the screen having everything at learner reader size.

I just took a look on iPhone and I have to say I think it works well there.

Forgot to mention in my previous post but the size thing is an issue, I have to resize when I come here and then again when I leave.  The sizing of the old setup was just right.

Nice work...
Show unread and replies should be easier to access. Perhaps simply two touchscreen friendly buttons? Yeah and make it smaller again. Design is nice.

First of all, nice change, I like it, it needs some tweaks but now looks more modern web site, not the vintage one, of course we like vintage but I think this is good, I really like the logo.

The problem I'm having are everything is white, hard to know where something start or finish, some more different colors or thicker lines would be helpful, also in my desktop the screen is centered, so I'm missing a quarter of wide at each end, without zooming, if I zoom in and accommodate that everything is too big, with no zoom the screen is too small in the center of the display. Something like this:

adadagsfgdadfadfafdfasdfasdfdsfa
asfdfadfasdasdfasdfadfasdfdfsadf
asdfasdfasgasdfasdfasdfasdasgd
asdgasdfasdgasdg

with all the spare space at the sides.

Looks great on my ipad! Have not used the new site in earnest, that is to say when scouring and gleaming through enourmous threads  for an ongoing build but so far so good!

i miss the ease of access to the New Replies/NewPosts links that used to be at the top, but are now hidden underneath a menu.  that extra mouse click adds up after a while.  it's all about efficiency of experience.

I agree.
Zoom text out to have more information and a less claustrophobic feel. Actually looking down at the replies, when I'm in this "post a reply mode" looks good size wise.
A slight grey background, with some sort of graphical break (color change or border line) between posts would be nice.
I also think that there is too much space allowed for our names and signatures. I'd rather have space for info and gear porn pics!

Decent change but it's wayyyyy to bright on a laptop and the 'GroupDIY' logo on the top takes up too much space when holding an iPhone 5s in landscape that there is barely any space left for text.. Good luck with the tweaks!

Nice  ..... but tooo bright ..as stated.......blew me PSU when I logged on
How about a nice cool "white/blue"  shade back ground ?

8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Smooth update Ethan
;)

I find the white background disturbing, but will get used to it , if that's the way it's gotta be
[ better and easier for everyone ? ]

Ya i agree with what everyone already said. White background too bright and the pages are huge now. I like the original muted color it was before. New logo looks super sweeeet  ;D

With all the stuff previously mentioned (too bright and too big font), I also find annoying the amount of space between the text area and the area with member names and avatars. It's a big white nothing that adds up to the feeling of "this is too white""
This is the case when looking at the page with PC on 1366x768 resolution.

Couldn't you just bring back the color scheme (background color and font colors) of the old forum? We got used to it that way!

Other than that - bravo for adopting it to the mobile world!

:)

This.

Otherwise i think its a big step in the right direction. Always have my iPad next to me on the bench.
It's a lot of work to update site and i think you've done a pretty good job for a first major revision.

Cheers,
Ben

We got a new seat-cover for the car seat the big dog sits in.

She does not like new things.

I'm feeling the same here.

Maybe we'll both get used to our new things.

I suspect background color should be a user option.

No offense, but it's waaay too big everything..

WAY TOO BIG. I really dislike this recent trend all over the internet. This effectively makes your screen smaller, so you can see less at one time and have to do a lot more scrolling. Like you're on your phone with a 24" monitor. I wish the trend would go the other way. Way too much blank space on way too many sites these days. It's making everything look kindergarten level. Look at how much white space you're looking at as your read this. To me, this is the opposite of mobile/tablet/small-screen friendly.

Quotes aren't in "balloons" now, making it much less clear to distinguish a quote from a reply.

Not to be rude, but why is the change needed?

The more I zoom out (CTRL/CMND -) to make everything not look enormous, everything gets smaller but there's more blank space.

EDIT: On my iPhone, I can only zoom out (make all this huge text smaller) to the native size of the site. I can always zoom in all I want on a site to go small->bigger.
