Hi Group
I had the tough job of helping Dave Baskind's wife clean out
their garage the other weekend. As some of you know, Dave passed
away a couple of years ago. His shop was basically as he had left it
before he died. I talked to him for the last time 2 day prior. I had known
Dave for 35 years. We grew up living next door to each other. We were
Room mates at one time. Dave has a rich reputation in the music and
Electronics business. He was involved in the development of the first
VCA’s at B&B audio and designed some of their consoles and modules.
He worked at API In the 70’s and developed microphones for Groove Tube,
CAD and Earthworks Including the “Kick Pad”. He was also a fine musician
and was a good friend to have. I miss him.

In cleaning out garage, I came across some capsules. (see photo) They
Were unmarked as to who made them and what they were for. I know
That he was always getting samples in from Josephson Engineering
that make the Manley Reference mic capsules and some Peluso capsules
at one time. Anybody recognize them? I have 6 of them and would like to
make use of them.

Thanks All
Any ideas appreciated.

It looks similar to a Neumann kk47 or possibly kk67 capsule. But, it seems off a bit to be the real deal so my bet would be that it's a clone of some type.

The plastic external ring seems too white to me. Every Neumann capsule of this type I've seen has more of a yellowish or cream colored ring. Of course it could be just inaccurate color rendition in the photograph or my poor memory. Something else doesn't look right but I can't quite put my finger on it yet.

Also, from the wear on the screws it looks like these capsules have been taken apart quite a few times as if someone were experimenting with them. This makes sense considering your friend's history in the music business.

The mount and general appearance are very similar to Neumann but I don't have any of the genuine article here in front of me to check right now.

If you don't get a more definitive answer I'll try to dig up a Neumann KK47 or 67 to do a more thorough comparison.

Good luck checking this out.

ps Just realized the mount seems to be black plastic. Every KK47 and KK67 I've seen used either metal or a yellowish plastic if I recall correctly. The shape of the mount seems close but not exact.

Looks a bit like a Rode to me, screws stainless, not brass:

Not exactly this model, but some other of their range.

Mount looks generic Chinese?
