just got sirius satellite radio.

is it normal for it to sound like a crappy mp3, or does my receiver suck?

the same receiver sounds normal on terrestial am fm bands
 
From what I've both read and experienced, that's the norm. I've read that XM sounds slightly better, but I like the programming better on sirius. The poor sound is what has kept me from making the leap.

Note: There is a 'high quality' option that you have to pay an extra buck or two a month for on Sirius.
