benchtop variable power supply

Can anyone recommend a good benchtop power supply for me? Preferences:

No need for more than 1A.
+/- 5-24VDC
low footprint
$50, or is that unrealistic. And if it is, why?

If you don't need (or want) current limiting you should be able to find something in that price range. IIRC, that's about what I paid for my Heathkit dual supply on eBay a few years back. I think it only goes to +/-20V, though. If you can stretch your budget to $100 there are a lot more options on the used market (Lambda, older HP, etc.). Good luck on your quest!
