Where do the DSP and software geeks hang out these days?
« on: October 21, 2009, 06:16:08 PM »
Even though I'm will never get tired of building analog gear, I'm itching to get back into DSP and software again. So where do geek like me who are so inclined hang out these days?

Thanks,

Joe

We have one or two hanging out here (Dale and Darren spring to mind, but I know there are more).

Anything in particular you have in mind?

Yeah,  I'm curious about software development tools and platforms, and the availability of middleware that would enable my creations to be ported to VST, ASIO, AU, MME, WDM, etc. without having to write interfaces for each.  Also, I've been out of it for a while so I need to catch up on new algorithms, windowing functions and the like.

Thanks,

Joe

Guilty as charged! (+2, moving at 2.2 m/s...) However, I'm no expert at it just yet, but I learn a little more every day.

One of my hangouts is a place called Noisepages, started by Peter Kirn of Create Digital Music (I wouldn't be surprised if some around here are familiar with that blog).

http://noisepages.com/

From there, I created a group and forum for DSP:

http://noisepages.com/groups/digital-signal-processing

It's not a very active place just yet, though we have a number of people blogging, myself included. The DSP group's forum recently got wiped by an upgrade (stupid software!) so even though it's blank now, there was once activity there.

The only other place the DSP people hang out is on the Music-DSP mailing list. I'm subscribed, but I rarely use it, as every question I asked was met with "the answer to that is proprietary." Fair enough, I'll just figure something out myself.

Have fun! Feel free to sign up to Noisepages and ask questions, if you'd like.

Just to warn you, if you do try the forum at the DSP group on Noisepages, it's not working at the moment. The good news is, it's a simple fix, and just a matter of me remembering to bug the right guy to fix it, so any day now. ;) Sorry about that.

Yeah, okay,  I saw that.  I was a bit puzzled.

Yeah, a number of the forums were victims of a software upgrade gone wrong. Welcome to life on the Internet, I guess. ;)
