I have a 1989 X100B on the bench right now.  Came in with 2 6l6's and bad sound.

www.carvinservice.com will be your friend.

First step for me is to trace out and validate the circuit.  Someone has been in the amp before and has put in some "mods."

While this particular amp has the 30-x100-4b circuit board, it's not using the EL34tubes as noted in the schematic.

http://www.carvinservice.com/crg/schematics/X-Series%20Amp%20Schematic.pdf

Looks like the only difference in the power section for 6l6 vs EL34 is the screen resistors.

5W 350r for EL34
2W 470R for 6l6

Looks like that 2W part needs to be bumped up a bit.

ok this thing has a shorted OPT,

getting a chassis with a bad transformer is like throwing a steak to a hungry linebacker,  :D

here we go with the OPT,

they short stacked me with 7/8" on a 100 EI, s/b 1 inch for a sq stack to match the 1" tongue, WTF, over?

i'll eat a short stack of pancakes, but don't short me lams, jus sayin... ;D

afraid the bass might blow the twelve i guess,
