Hi,

I recorded a classical guitar player two weeks ago. For this recording almost anything used was DIY:

- The main mic was IOaudios MK-U47 connected to Colin's ez1073
This microphone has an original K49 fitted together with a pair of WE tubes.
The ez1073 is built exactly as per Colins instruction and has Carnhill Trafos fitted. For this recording the EQ was switched off.

- The room mics were 2 of Danys U87s
Both mics are in an original U87 housing together with an original KK87 head and a Cinemag 2480 Transformer.
Both were connected to a Gyraf G9 with OEPs on the input and Pikatron on the Output. The high pass filter was set to the 'low' position.

The mic arragement was:
Main Mic: Approx 50cm in front of the guitar (as seen on the link below) set to cardiod.
Room Mics form a triangle with the main mic and were set to omni. Spacing is approx 150cm.

The Converter used was RMEs ADI-8DS directly into Logic Pro X.

Here are two additional pieces from Schubert... more to follow...

The equipment used this time:
- 2x Neumann KM84 (Main Mic approx 1m in front of the talent)
- 2x Neumann TLM170 (Blumlein, Room)
- 2x Neumann KM83 (AB, Room, only mixed in slightly)
All of the microphones were broken when I got them and needed some fixes.
They are connected to my DIY API Style Pres seen here: https://groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=63350.0
The configuration has been slightly changed on channels 5-6 though: There were gar2520 DOAs installed when we did the recording.
AD Conversion is by the Octo-Pre AD Card in the DIY Pre, clocked from a Mutec MC3+.

Update June 2018

I Love that room Sounds ,  the artist is awesome too,
glad those DIY thingy actually get to work :)
got to say it is magistral recording
Best,

Thanks for the kind words, Dan.
In the past I built 4 (!) of your D87, one D67 and one D47fet and all of them are stunning and are in regular use.
Unfotunately I can not access the TwinX account anymore to upload some pictures...
Be prepared for an additional order... ;)
Regards,
Christian

Shame about the out of tune guitar, other wise quite impressive. Your front mike is too close as well, just picks up lots of finger noise.

Well, that proves I'm a hack guitar player as well as a hack engineer.    :p

Great performance, great recording work, great DIY gear!
