Hi all
I am a novice in DIY, did some electronics at school about 20 years ago
but not much have stuck, sorry to say.
I have been following this forum for som weeks and spent quite a while reading different topics
I have a pc running audiophile 24/96 (unbalanced inputs) and I am happy with this setup.
Came across Scott Helmcke´s microphone "Alice" http://www.scotthelmke.com/microphones.html and have built a couple of my own versions of this.
The mics are sideaddress and sounds great taking cost of parts in consideration.
I already own a CAD E-200 and thinking about what this costs 12 years ago the homebuilt mics are even more amazing!
This project opened my eyes for the possibilities with DIY.
Now I would like to build myself a mono front end for my music station.
I have purchased 4 pcb green pre channels from Peter C and are planning on ordering parts kit from Ptownkid.
I have also ordered a Pultec EQ pcb from Gyraf.
My plan is to make a green pre channel with the filter section from the Pultec.
Since I am new to DIY I want to wait before building tube gear, so I was thinking of using a second green pre as gain stage for the filter.
It is tempting to put a "What" compressor into this box also, but I already own a Focusrite "green series" comp/lim so I have not decided on this yet.
Can anybody in this great forum help out on how I should build this project?
I would like to set gain, then utilize the filter, then through a fixed make up gain on the second pre and to the out pot.
Where on the green channels should I lift and then reconnect the signal, and what fixed make-up gain do I need.
Are there any other considerations a novice should consider in building a project like this?
