My EV RE-20 started crackling and distorting when using it. Anybody know how to get inside one of these things? Also, any ideas on what the problem could be are welcome.

Mine had a plastic button under the diaphragm come loose, and this caused a problem like what you describe. EV has a lifetime warranty on the mic, they will replace the capsule free if you ship it to them.
