Shoot....I used to take apart old CRT monitors and VCRs and other junk.....you can find some nice polypropylene caps that might work in the build. Good when you have more time than money! :)
 
Haha. Lets see.....you can usually scrounge for power transformers too. I think my first stereo 1176 is powered by a single secondary 24v transformer. (I later replaced it cause the regulators had a hard time regulating cause there wasn't as much extra voltage as they like to see, but it worked fine!)
 
to continue the madness....if you want to get evn cheaper.....you could just hardwire the unit for Nuke mode and leave it at that! No switches or anything! haha!! Shoot, set the release and attack at a good spot with just resistors and you got a lean mean machine.
I don't know about most of you folks but I usually have a fastish attack and release anyway, usually don't change it much.
